OUR HISTORY

God graciously birthed the Evangelical Free Church of Hastings in the living room of a home on September 26, 1972 – over 4 decades ago!

The Beginning

Don and Donna Nelson had a vision for what God could do in Hastings and the surrounding region. They saw the need for a dynamic vital evangelical body of believers where the Word of God was central, relationships were primary, and outreach to those without Christ was part of the DNA of the group.

Although the church body has grown and changed over the past four decades the heartbeat of those pioneers has remained the same. Glorifying Christ is our passion. The Bible is our foundation. People are our priority. Worship is our lifeline. Reaching out into our community with the gospel is still part of our DNA.

From its birth place in that living room the church has moved its meeting place to a small church building south east of the Hastings College campus, to the middle school and then to our present site on the north end of town. In January of 2008 we held a mortgage burning ceremony and retired the debt on the latest addition to our facility and campus. We continue to take steps of faith that God asks us to take as we reach out to Hastings, the surrounding area and the world with the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have now been through three building campaigns and ministered to hundreds of people of all ages.

A detailed copy of our church history with specific dates on milestones reached, important people God has used, and pastors who have served the church is available in our church office. The gracious hand of God at work has been evident over the years as He has brought many faithful servant-hearted leaders to join in the vision of those early pioneers. Please pray for us as we seek to glorify God by continuing to follow Christ and reach the world!
